Hesburgh documentary wins New York Festival medal

"God, Country, Notre Dame: The Story of Father Ted Hesburgh, CSC" received a Bronze World Medal from the New York Festivals at its Film and Video awards gala Feb. 2 in Manhattan. The documentary on the president emeritus of Notre Dame who served on 16 United States’ presidential commissions won in the Biographies and Profiles category.

The New York Festivals honors excellence in creative communication, work that has touched the hearts and minds of readers, listeners and viewers worldwide.

Also, the documentary was screened at the inaugural film showcase of the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress, March 2, at the Anaheim Convention Center. About 300 catechists attended the screening.

As of March 1, the program had 160 broadcasts by 90 public television stations since it was released to them on May 14, 2006. These stations demographics include 51 million people, age 25 and up.

Despite his many accomplishments, Fr. Hesburgh maintains that his greatest is being a priest.
