March 18, 2006

CHICAGO – The President Emeritus of the University of Notre Dame Father Theodore M. Hesburgh, CSC, was honored by Holy Cross College, Nortre Dame, Ind., with its lifetime achievement award at the college’s gala 40th anniversary banquet, “A Tribute to Father Ted,” at Saturday, March 18, 2006 at the InterContinental Chicago.

Father Hesburgh was honored for his many years of support to the college and his longstanding commitment to the Holy Cross community. Holy Cross College is a small Catholic liberal arts school conducted by the Brothers of the Congregation of Holy Cross. Father Hesburgh is a priest of the Congregation of Holy Cross, which sponsors the University of Notre Dame.

Among the some 200 people who attended the benefit reception, dinner and auction were, in addition to Father Hesburgh, Chief Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court Bob Thomas, a former place kicker for Notre Dame and the Chicago Bears.

Proceeds from the event benefited the Hesburgh Scholarship Fund at Holy Cross College.

Family Theater Productions, Hollywood, which produced the documentary, “God, Country, Notre Dame: The Story of Father Ted Hesburgh, CSC,” donated a DVD of the program to be given away to one person at each table and to each person at the head table. Family Theater, a member of Holy Cross Family Ministries, Easton, Mass., also donated a gift basket of videos for the event’s auction. The documentary’s broadcast premiere was November 6, 2005 on The Hallmark Channel. It will soon be distributed to public television stations (PBS affiliates) throughout the country.
