Fr. Hesburgh receives Telly Award before broadcast of his story; viewers respond

Many of the viewers of God, Country, Notre Dame: The Story of Father Ted Hesburgh, CSC, that aired at Noon (EST) Sunday, Nov. 6, on The Hallmark Channel, kept the documentary's web site and the special phone line at Holy Cross Family Ministries busy on Sunday afternoon and Monday morning ordering DVDs of the program.

According to Nielsen ratings, 120,000 households tuned in at Noon (EST) for the national broadcast.

As expected, Father Hesburgh was the homilist at the Mass from the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame, broadcast the hour before the documentary. Near the end of the Mass, Father Peter Rocca, CSC, rector, thanked Father Ted for the homily, briefly described the documentary produced by Family Theater Productions, and announced the upcoming broadcast. Then, on behalf of Family Theater Productions and to the applause of the congregation, he presented Father Ted with the Telly Award that the program earned. Telly Awards honor outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs as well as the finest video and film productions.
