November 22, 2006
Family Theater Productions’ one-hour documentary, God, Country, Notre Dame: The Story of Father Ted Hesburgh, CSC, won the “Best In Show” Award for Film/Video/TV division of the 2006 International Davey Awards. It was selected above 90 Gold Award and 618 Silver Award winners who entered in various categories under film, video or TV.
The Daveys, named for David who slew Goliath, honors the achievements of smaller companies, as it website describes, “‘Creative Davids’ who derive their strength from big ideas, rather than stratospheric budgets.” The “Best in Show” award is announced on the The Davey Awards website and in a press release (pdf).
The documentary, examining the service of the president emeritus of the University of Notre Dame to his church, higher education and the country, has had more than 60 broadcasts on public television stations since its satellite distribution in May.
Despite his many accomplishments, Fr. Hesburgh maintains that his greatest is being a priest.
